Epping Close News - Autumn 2000

ITS THAT TIME AGAIN!

The Annual General Meeting of Epping Close Management Company Ltd will be held on Wednesday the 22nd November at 7.30pm. We would like to encourage as many flat owners as possible to attend.

There are many things that need to be done over the next year to ensure that the communal areas and buildings of Epping Close are kept in good order and indeed improved; this is important both from the point of view of maintaining the quality of life of the residents but equally importantly preserving and improving the resale value of the individual flats.

Epping Close Management Company has always prided itself on the fact that it has done its job economically, keeping down costs for both its members and for residents by avoiding the use of managing agents whose profit margins inevitably drive up costs. Many agent managed flats in the area have management charges over twice ours.

However this cannot continue without a strong committee with enough members to share out the work without overwhelming anyone. Those of you who have lived in the flats for more than two or three years will remember the problems that built up when the committee was allowed to run down to only two members.

Sadly, as you will read below, we will soon be losing our chairman who has contributed much to the running of the company over the last three years. Other directors have left during this year and we now have several vacancies, most especially for somebody to act as chairman and someone to look after the day to day maintenance aspects, getting quotes and arranging for tradesmen to do work.

If any of you feel able to contribute to this, please do contact Chris Wood or Margaret Brownlie or simply turn up to the meeting.

GEOF DAVIS

As I write this newsletter, Geof Davis is on his way to a new life in Devon.

For the last two years Geof has been an excellent chairman of the Epping Close Management Company. For even longer he has more or less single-handedly been responsible for the building and grounds maintenance aspects, obtaining quotes and arranging for work to be done. On many occasions he has gone way beyond our formal remit, helping residents with repairs within their flats and getting involved in resolving neighbourly disputes.

I’m sure you will all join me in thanking Geof for his time and effort, and wishing him the very best in Devon. We are hoping that Geof will be able to make the AGM, in order that we can say goodbye properly.

RESIDENTS BARBECUE

Sadly one of the things we never managed to arrange this year was the usual residents barbecue. We hope to try again next year, assuming it ever stops raining.
